The Cancer Epidemic

Prevention Foods

Diet is one of the most overlooked therapies when creating a healing protocol. The foods you eat directly and indirectly influences the bodies ability to heal and protect itself against additional problems. With this said, certain foods carry with them specific cancer-fighting benefits.

It is no secret that cancer patients are known to have higher levels of oxidative stress. One of the best ways to combat oxidative stress is with ant-oxidants. Berries are one of the top antioxidant-rich food sources and are also low in sugar. Almost all berries are packed with antioxidants that combat free radical damage and oxidative stress but the top three are blueberries, cranberries, and blackberries.

Antioxidants have known antiaging properties and can also reduce inflammation. This is great news for anyone with cancer, or anyone attempting to prevent cancer. Try a mixed berry smoothie with your breakfast each morning, it is a delicious way to start your day!

Leafy Green

One can never eat too much salad – this sums up the benefits of leafy greens. Leafy greens contain a laundry list of vitamins and nutrients that promote health. The leafy greens are we referring to specifically include:

Although turmeric is a spice and not a food, it has earned its place on this list. Turmeric is one of the more popular herbs because of its wide range of benefits. Typically known as the main spice in a traditional Indian curry dishes, turmeric is so much more than just a tasty spice!

While the benefits of turmeric are widespread, there are two benefits that give it the power to fight cancer. Turmeric is highly anti-inflammatory and contains large amounts of antioxidants. It has already been established that cancer is often accompanied by systematic inflammation and high levels of oxidative stress. The ability of turmeric to combat the effects of cancer is largely due to a compound called curcumin, which provides the majority of benefits. isolated curcumin can be purchased and is often more beneficial than turmeric, which contains a measly 3% of curcumin.

Please note that the body has a hard time absorbing curcumin when taken alone. To increase the absorption, taking black pepper (which includes piperine) with the supplement, can significantly increase the absorption of curcumin.
